man netsaint_statd (Commandes) - (daemon) NetSaint add-on for remote monitoring

NAME

netsaint_statd - (daemon) NetSaint add-on for remote monitoring

SYNOPSIS

netsaint_statd [ port ]

DESCRIPTION

netsaint_statd is the portion of the NetSaint statd add-on that resides on the system to be monitored and acts as "server" in that it serves up information requested by the plugins on the NetSaint monitoring system.

Start and stop the daemon using the provided init.d script: /etc/init.d/netsaint-statd {start|stop|restart}. Once started, it forks itself into the background and waits for client connection attempts. Because it binds by default to a port above 1024 and does not require priveleged access, the daemon runs as the user "nobody." The init script uses /var/run/netsaint_statd.pid to store the PID of the currently running daemon.

This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution because the original program does not have a manual page.

OPTIONS

This program optionally accepts the TCP port to open to listen for conntection attempts. If no port is specified, the default of 1040 is used.

You can enable IP-based security (that is, limit the systems allowed to connect to and query netsaint_statd ) by modifying the @allowed_hosts variable in /usr/bin/netsaint_statd. (In the future, this will be configurable via the init script.)
