X11 Rosegarden (rosegarden2) is a an integrated music notation editor and MIDI sequencer for Xwindows. Extensive on-line help is provided.

Note that /usr/bin/rosegarden2 is actually a shell-script which sets environment variables and then starts the program.

Rosegarden2 is a rather old application. A complete rewrite of it using KDE/Qt is being developed. A beta release of it is available in Debian as a separate package (rosegarden4).

The authors use the term "X11 Rosegarden" to refer to the old 2.1 releases of rosegarden described in this manual page, to avoid confussion with the new release.

X11 Rosegarden understands standard X11 and Xaw toolkit options, and uses a few of its own.

editorName

Gives the full path to the X11 Rosegarden notation editor.

sequencerName

Gives the full path to the X11 Rosegarden midi sequencer.

helpFile

Gives the full path to the X11 Rosegarden help file.

midiFmPatchFile

Gives the full path to the default midi patch file to be used in FM synthesis mode.

midiFMDrumPFile

Gives the full path the the default midi patch file to be used for Drum sounds in FM synthesis mode.

filtersDirectory

Gives the full path to the directory containing filters for the Rosegarden Petal scripting language. $HOME/.rosepetal-filters is also searched by default

musicDirectory

The default directory to use when trying to open X11 Rosegarden music files.

midiPort

The default midi port to be used for MIDI I/O.

X11 Rosegarden uses the environment variable ``TCLLIBPATH'' to locate the tclmidi scripting language. This environment variable is correctly set up by the initialization script.

Support for most music output formats (MusicTex/PMX) is shoddy at best.
